What I Learned from Working with Snowy by Joyce Leake
This is a story about our colt, Snowy. He was foaled on our property on the last snowy day of May, 2002, thus his name stuck. He is a bay colt with two white hind stockings and a white blaze on his head. He's very sweet, but he is in that "colt" stage, awaiting gelding. Some people were coming out to see him for a potential sale. It is important to present your horse in a mannerly way, and that was Roy's intention when he brought him in from the pasture, where he lives with two adult geldings. Bringing him in was no problem. However, after a day spent in his run, he became grouchy and agitated that he wasn't out in pasture. His demeanor had changed and he became scary. [read more here] or [download 520k PDF] |

Test Drive Your Intuition: "Just Say It"
Lucy's Story, A Handy Communication Tip by Joyce Leake
From Lucy's point of view, every day should be the same. According to her schedule, she cannot wait for the alarm clock to sound, signifying, "Get up, let me out, and feed me my breakfast." We, as loving doggy parents, obediently comply. The rest of Lucy's day is filled with chasing bunnies, aggravating the two gray cats, eating niblets from the breakfast table, and taking her morning nap, while I work on the telephone. Precisely at 2:00 p.m. she awakens to tell me, through her stares, that it's time to take our daily trip. We go to the post office, drop off letters, pick up the mail and proceed with her venture. Even though our property has plenty of acreage for Lucy to enjoy, she is fearful of the horses, and prefers, no. demands, that her exercise routine adheres to her expectations: a walk at the County Fairgrounds. There, she sniffs all of her favorite places [read more here] or [download 217k PDF] |

Look Who's Talking
by Kara L. Stewart, Horse Illustrated Magazine (reprinted with permission)
For some people telepathic animal communication ranks up there with UFOs on the believability scale. Others swear by it- they've seen their animal's behavior problems disappear and ailments pinpointed that previously avoided detection. If we think about it, many of the treatments we use today were once considered "alternative." Chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, Bach flower remedies, laser therapy and other modalities now considered acceptable treatment options were once pooh-poohed as weird or implausible. Even training methods have evolved as more horse owners seek to achieve a partnership with their horse rather than a relationship based on domination. [Read more here] or [download 317k PDF].

Joyce's Story
by Joyce Leake
We create and "read" sign languages; set representations of symbols and signals created to bypass verbal language. An unfamiliar tongue or foreign gesture may be lost, at first, on one unable to comprehend its meaning. As with the understanding of any "new language", it bears repeating until a familiar pattern is recognized. There is an even more subtle level of communication which our conscious minds must be "opened" to comprehend. [Read more here] or [download 82k PDF].

Animal Communicators - How Do They Work?
by Joyce Leake (excerpts from Maverick Press, October 2002)
How many times have you wished that you and your horse could just sit down and have a conversation that answers all the questions you've been dying to ask? What if you could have that conversation- or something very close to it? Animal communicators are stepping in and filling your request as barns and horse people hire them to answer those questions and more. As animals share their point-of-view, an added benefit seeps in- secrets, on how the animal-human relationship gets a jump-start.
How does it work? [Read more here] or [download 185k PDF].

Separation Anxiety: A closer look at what's below the surface
by Joyce Leake (reprinted from Dog Days of Denver with permission)
The holidays were fast approaching and Sarah was thinking about all she wanted to do to celebrate. She'd already received several invitations to parties and was toying with the idea of throwing one of her own. The persistent licking on her hand brings Sarah back to the moment. As she pets her "best friend", Fido, she realizes that attending any party is going to be hard and throwing one- well, that's out of the question. You see, Fido doesn't like Sarah to be gone. She rushes home from work each day, and to assuage her guilt, takes Fido with her everywhere she can- or she doesn't go out at all. And having a guest- much less a crowd- at her home is way too distressing for him. [Read more here] or [download 76k PDF].

The Confidant Approach. Stepping Up to the Head of the Herd
by Joyce Leake
Whether you present yourself with confidence and authority, or are shakin' in your riding boots, your horse will immediately know whether your presentation is true or false. Believe it or not, your level of self-confidence and self-assurance will affect your horse's confidence just as it affects yours! A warm tone of voice, a poised carriage, a calm approach that exudes assurance. will gain you the trust and confidence of your horse. I am not talking about pompous self-confidence, or self-centeredness, but about "centeredness", about acting from a centered place. [Read more here] or [download 175k PDF].

An excerpt from "Hints, Clues & Innuendoes-Your Handy Pet Message Decoder"
by Joyce Leake, Animal Communicator
Litter box problems? Why is my cat missing the box?
Sometimes cats "miss the box" intentionally, and sometimes it is because of something else.
First of all, make certain your cat is not physically infirm. Aging, arthritis, strokes, or other infirmities can certainly add to the navigation, or lack of it, if that be the case, in proper aim for the litter box. Youth can be a factor, too! [Read more here] or [download 167k PDF].

Denying The Obvious
by Joyce Leake
My everyday job is a real treat. I have the privilege of communicating with animals. I mean, I get to be a receptor for their thoughts. Using my senses, I learn how animals view the world from their perspective. What do they think of their life? How would they change things? Or, do they even want to? Their answers are honest and straightforward, sometimes surprising, but always filled with optimism and lots of love. [Read more here] or [download 108k PDF]
